Balbinder Banga

Change Management Consultant at CommonSpirit Health

Background

I have a varied background shaped by diverse cultures and experiences. I was born in Canada to parents from India and moved to the United States 25 years ago. My two children were born in Oregon. I grew up in a small town in Northern British Columbia, home to the rare Kermode Bear. I hold a master’s degree in engineering management from Portland State University and am PROSCI and PMP certified.

Path to Change Management

I began my career in Project Management and transitioned into Change Management ten years ago. This shift allowed me to leverage my project planning and execution expertise while focusing on the creative, human-centered aspects of change. I particularly enjoy developing plans, executing key deliverables, teaching people about the importance of change management and seeing positive results take hold. I'm dedicated to continuous professional development and looking to expand my knowledge and skills.

Biggest Obstacle Getting Established in Change Management

Technology Change Management presents a unique challenge: bridging the communication gap between technical subject matter experts and end users with varying levels of technical proficiency. My approach is to serve as both translator and filter—distilling complex technical language into clear, job-relevant information so users receive only what they need to succeed. I also strategically involve technical team members in user interactions, enabling them to address deeper questions in real time. This approach builds user confidence, builds cross functional collaboration, reduces friction, and helps ensure smooth project progression.

Biggest Reward from this Career

I’m driven by the satisfaction of seeing change being adopted. I enjoy completing key deliverables and successfully launching strategic change initiatives. While change can be daunting, a thoughtful and well-executed strategy transforms it into a catalyst for new opportunities and improved employee performance. My focus is on empowering people, facilitating cross-functional collaboration, and delivering measurable results for our clients.

Bucket List Yet to Accomplish

I would love to take a family trip to India. While we’ve traveled extensively with the kids, we have not made a trip to India yet.

Fun Fact

I enjoy challenging myself with fitness challenges where I test my discipline. My daughter, Jaya, and my niece, Sabrina and I participate in several fitness challenges a year. Together we've completed challenges ranging from a half marathon, a 75-day challenge, to a no-sugar diet.
