Josh Roe
Organization Change Management Lead at Bentley Systems
Fun Fact
I am a total adventure junkie. I took parental leave in 2021 (at the end of COVID) and embarked on the adventure of a lifetime with a 5-year-old and a 6-month-old: 3 weeks in Kauai, 5 weeks in Argentina (Patagonia), and 5 weeks in Costa Rica.
Most people thought we were crazy . . . and we probably were, just a little bit.
Background
I was born and raised in Spokane, WA, where I currently live with my wife and two kids. I earned my undergraduate degree in Recreation Management from Western Washington University, then returned to Spokane in 2001 to restart a dormant nonprofit as its Founding Executive Director, a role I held for seven years. In 2008, I pursued a Master’s in Organizational Leadership from Gonzaga University, followed by two years consulting for nonprofits and supporting my father’s economic development initiative in Ethiopia.
After a management consulting role for an oil and gas company in Calgary, AB, where I
earned my Prosci certification, I spent five years developing two start-ups in learning and development and e-commerce. In 2019, I joined ENGIE Impact as a Senior Organizational Change Manager, and in July 2023, I became the Organizational Change Management Lead at Bentley Systems.
Path to Change Management
I have over 20 years of experience leading organizational change, including 12
years as a nonprofit executive and consultant, seven years in corporate settings (digital
transformation, executive transition), three years teaching Change Leadership in higher
education, and five years with start-ups.
Biggest Obstacle Getting Established in Change Management
The biggest obstacle I have encountered is my diverse professional background. I am privileged to have had amazing, unique professional experiences, but during times of transition, it has been challenging to connect the dots and relate my experience to functional change management. I have overcome this obstacle by seeking professional
support with resume development and by reaching out for help to tell my story in a
clear, succinct way. I have also consulted professionals in my network for advice and
support related to job postings and interview processes.
Biggest Reward from this Career
I am energized by coaching leaders to navigate dynamic, complex change. I enjoy connecting one-on-one with leaders who are guiding their teams through challenging transitions and helping them identify meaningful, adoption-oriented solutions to support their team members.
Bucket List Yet to Accomplish
I am excited to visit New Zealand someday and backpack the Milford Trek on the
South Island.
